From the early 1960s a potential battlefield in europe became the key factor in NATO and Warsaw pact strategic concerns. The Cold War made it necessary to extend the Modern German Army into the conventional backbone in Europe at that date. Neither before nor later the German Bundeswehr was larger, better equipped and more powerful than in these days.
