Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun/Missile Tanks of the Modern German Army 1956 to Today
While the Modern German Army air-defence in its early years had to rely on U.S. Army vehicles such as the M 16 A1 halftrack and the M 42 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun tank, more modern German designs soon surfaced. The first of these state-of-the-art air-defence tracked vehicles was the Flak-Panzer GEPARD self-propelled anti-aircraft gun tank. New missile technology soon made it possible to add the Fla-Rak-Panzer ROLAND self-propelled anti-aircraft missile tank to the Bundeswehr’s inventory, too. As the GEPARD, the ROLAND was a milestone in the development of modern
air-defence armoured tracked vehicles.
